Prioritise the skills leaders need to develop for successful collaboration

In a recent poll I conducted on LinkedIn, 42% of leaders said they are prioritising collaboration skills for development in 2022.

I asked what will it take to be an even more effective leader this year and to rate the key leadership attributes that will be important.

Here is a summary of the results.

✴️ Collaboration 42%
Working together to achieve more than the sum of the parts

✴️ Creativity 21%
What worked yesterday may not work tomorrow

✴️ Coaching 24%
Transitioning from player to coach

✴️ Appreciation 13%
Letting people know you value and appreciate them

It looks like collaboration is a clear priority. I have been drilling a bit further into the specific skills leaders need to develop for successful collaboration.

Here is a selection of some of the insights I have received so far.

🎯 Objective setting

“Working together usually brings benefits so long as everyone is clear on objectives….”

“Without knowing the destination, everyone can be spinning their wheels.”

👂Listening and communication

“Meet and talk to people, listen to what they have to say. Seems so simple but many fail at it.”

“Communication is vital for me in collaboration.
This will absolutely drive the team towards the goal.”

🙏🏻 Willingness to help

“Leaders need to constantly ask how they can help people.”

“Seeing the challenge from an organizational, and not an individual perspective. It’s about the team; not the individual.”

👏 Bias for action

“A willingness to listen to others and actually act on things.”

🙋‍♀️ I would love to hear your views. Is collaboration important for you. What skills do leaders need to develop for successful collaboration? 🙋
